Course Schedule

The course is based around a five-week, six-module online program with educator support available for this time.
The course modules should be followed in sequential order during this five-week window.
There is a recommendation of six hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.
Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

Course Description:

This is an Online entry-level certification program, offered by Melbourne Wine School, one of the most experienced providers of WSET certifications in Melbourne, covers wines of the world.
The focus is on how to professionally taste wine, factors that influence style, quality and price, and an in-depth review of major grape varieties and wine types. Wine tasting is a part of every session with over 40 wines tasted during the program.

Tasting Technique (SAT)
Wine and Food

Unit 2:
Natural Factors
Factors Influencing red wine production
Pinot Noir

Unit 3:
Factors affecting the production of white and rosé wines
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris, Viognier, Albariño

Unit 4:
Factors affecting sweet wine production.
Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Sémillon/Semillon, Furmint, Gewurztraminer

Unit 5:
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah/Shiraz

Unit 6:
Gamay, Grenache/Garnacha, Tempranillo, Carmenère, Malbec, Pinotage.

Unit 7:
Cortese, Garganega, Verdicchio, Fiano , Nebbiolo, Barbera, Corvina, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Zinfandel/Primitivo

Certification & Exam:

The certification program concludes with a one-hour, 50 multiple choice examination. Students who earn a passing score of 55% (27 correct answers) will receive a WSET Level 2 Award. Students who earn a score of 70% - 84% pass with Merit. Those who earn a score of 85% or above pass with Distinction.
This is an Online course so this examination is taken Online at a time and date that suits the candidate.

Entry Requirements:

All attendees must be at least 18 years of age.
WSET Level 1 certification is NOT required to take WSET Level 2

Tasting is a highly recommended, but not essential part of studying for this course, and you will need to taste a range of wines. The list of recommendations can be found inside your online class, along with suggestions on where you can purchase them online.

Receival of Study Materials:

Course materials are available for pick up from Melbourne Wine School, however level 1 Award materials will be provided on the day of the course or in an online format. Should the student wish to attain the course material before their course days, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they organise receipt.

Booking Conditions and Course Cancellations:

Bookings are not secured until full payment is received, and the enrolment form completed and returned to Melbourne Wine School. Bookings will only be accepted on valid forms with a signed and dated student declaration.

Course bookings willclose 15 workingdays prior to the course commencement date.

Cancellations for bookings on any Melbourne Wine School WSET courses are refundable up to 20 working days prior to the course start date. An administration fee of $75.00 plus the full cost of the study materials supplied will be deducted and the remainder of the course fee refunded.

Should a student wish to return their study materials, they must be returned unopened before a refund can be issued, although a $75.00 administration fee will apply.

Occasionally, due to lack of demand or other unforeseen circumstances, a scheduled course may have to be cancelled by Melbourne Wine School. Affected students will be given appropriate notice in the event of the cancellation of their course. Students will be offered a place on an alternative course if available, or a refund of their booking fees.

In the event of a course cancellation, students will have up to 12 months to attend a new course. If a student fails to attend a course within this timeframe, Melbourne Wine School will consider the student to be a “no-show” and their course fees will be forfeit.

Transfers:

Transfers of a booking either to another course or applicant are not permitted by Melbourne Wine School. This includes any request to transfer a candidate’s examination date. Melbourne Wine School reserves the right to review requests for a transfer on a case-by-case basis.

Zero Tolerance:

Melbourne Wine School has a zero-tolerance policy for threatening behaviour or acts of aggression and violence, physical or verbal, towards our members of our staff. Any violation of the policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination or removal from any course without refund.

Illness:

In the event of illness such as positive Covid-19 diagnosis, individuals are required to provide a doctor’s certificate. If you are unable to provide certificates, all course fees are waived and you will be treated as a non-attend, and full course fees need to be paid to re-enrol.
