About Our Masterclass: The Northern Rhone Valley
The Northern Rhone wine region produces some of France’s finest wines, but it’s also a region that offers some good value, if you know where to look.
Though the Northern Rhone makes both whites and red wines, the vast majority of it is powerful red wines made from Syrah. The Rhone Valley as a whole pumps out a large amount of wine every year, but the Northern Rhone only accounts for less than 5% of that production, which actually does makes sense because it’s not actually very big at all. In fact, of that 5%, half of it comes from the biggest appellation in the region, Crozes-Hermitage.
This evening will cover an overview of the different appellations of the Northern Rhone, from Cote-Rôtie to Hermitage as well as Condrieu and Crozes, and hopefully an explanation of the different styles of wine produced here. You will taste many different wines, including several top red wines from the Northern Rhone which offer quality, age worthiness, although possibly not so much in a value driven sense...
