Your Wineries:

Stop 1: Yarra Yering

Yarra Yering is one of Australia’s most iconic wineries, established in 1969 in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. Renowned for its distinctive, age-worthy wines, Yarra Yering combines traditional winemaking techniques with thoughtful innovation and a deep respect for terroir. Under the expert guidance of winemaker Sarah Crowe, the dry-grown, 29-hectare vineyard produces critically acclaimed blends and single varietals, including the flagship Dry Red Wine No. 1. As a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, Yarra Yering is deeply committed to environmental stewardship, ensuring that this remarkable site thrives for generations to come.

Stop 2: TarraWarra Estate

Founders Marc and Eva Besen purchased the property at TarraWarra Estate in 1979, initially as a family retreat. Thanks to their love of the wines of Burgundy, and with encouragement from legendary Yarra Valley winemaker Dr John Middleton, they planted the first 6 hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 1983. Forty years on, the 400-hectare property now encompasses 26 hectares of vines, an extensive nature reserve, cattle grazing, a kitchen garden and our beautiful cellar door and restaurant. The vision to create and share a unique and beautiful place is driven by gratitude to this country that opened its arms and homes when Marc Besen arrived in 1947. Together we strive to fulfil his vision for TarraWarra Estate, as custodians, we are defined by heritage and a deep sense of place.

Stop 3: Dominique Portet Winery

Ninth-generation winemaker Dominique Portet chose the cool climate of aptly named Coldstream in the Yarra Valley as home to the eponymous winery he founded in 2000. It was the culmination of a tenacious search for grape growing terroir to rival that of his native Bordeaux – but also the start of a new chapter in a winemaking story that has its roots in France in the early 1700s.
Now son Ben – generation 10 – heads the winemaking team, firmly observing the central tenets of this young yet historic estate: respect for tradition, understanding of site and an open mind towards contemporary practices that shape wines that are ever more refined and delicious.
