Section 1
Before you book.
Are courses suitable for beginners? +
Yes. Most of our courses are designed for people with no prior wine knowledge. WSET Level 1 and our 4-Week Wine Evenings are particularly beginner-friendly. If you're unsure where to start, see our decision guide or get in touch.
What's included in the course price? +
For WSET courses, the price includes all wines or spirits tasted during the course, your WSET study guide and workbook, expert tuition, and your first attempt at the exam. Light snacks and palate cleansers are also provided. For tastings and 4-Week Wine Evenings, the price includes wines tasted, tuition, and light snacks.
What should I bring? +
Photo ID, a pen or pencil, a water bottle, and any study materials we've sent ahead of your course. All wines, glassware, and core study materials are provided. We recommend eating beforehand so you can taste at your best.
Is food provided? +
Light snacks and palate cleansers are provided during tasting sessions. For full-day courses, we recommend eating a substantial breakfast or lunch beforehand. Water is available throughout, and there are food options nearby in Richmond if you need a break.
What should I wear? +
Smart casual. Wear something you're comfortable in. Worth knowing: we taste red wines, so light-coloured clothing is a personal risk if you're prone to spills. We also recommend avoiding strong perfume or cologne, as it interferes with everyone's ability to assess wine aromas.
Can I attend if I don't drink much (or at all)? +
Yes. Most tastings are designed around evaluation, not consumption. Each wine is poured in small sample amounts, and spittoons are provided so you can taste without swallowing. WSET tutors explicitly teach the spit-tasting method, which is professional practice. You can absolutely participate fully without drinking large amounts of alcohol.
Do you cater for dietary requirements? +
Most diets can be accommodated with advance notice. Please get in touch before booking and we'll confirm what we can do for your specific requirements.
Is the venue accessible? +
Yes. Our Richmond location at Inspire9 is wheelchair accessible with lift access from the ground floor. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please get in touch before booking so we can confirm we can accommodate you.
Do I need to be 18 or older? +
Yes. Under Australian liquor licensing law, you must be 18 or over to participate in any alcohol tasting. Please bring photo ID, as our venues may need to verify if you look under 25.
Section 2
WSET courses.
What is WSET? +
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) is the world's largest provider of wine, spirits and sake qualifications. Founded in 1969 and headquartered in London, WSET qualifications are recognised in over 70 countries and are the global standard for wine education. We are a WSET-accredited provider in Melbourne.
Which WSET level should I start at? +
It depends on your existing wine knowledge. Most regular wine drinkers start at Level 2, which is WSET's most popular qualification globally. Complete beginners may prefer Level 1. We've written a full guide: Which WSET should I start at?
What if I fail the exam? Can I resit? +
Yes. If you don't pass on your first attempt, you can resit the exam. There is a resit fee paid to WSET, which varies by level. Most students pass first time, but if you do need to resit, get in touch and we'll walk you through the process.
When do I receive my certificate? +
WSET issues digital certificates approximately four weeks after the exam. Successful students receive an email with a scannable QR code and a link to claim and print their certificate. Level 3 students also receive a physical lapel pin posted by WSET, around six weeks after results.
How long is the qualification valid? +
WSET qualifications do not expire. Once awarded, your certificate is valid for life and recognised internationally. You can list it on your CV, LinkedIn, and other professional profiles.
Can I use the WSET logo on my CV or business cards? +
Yes, certified students can use the appropriate WSET certified logo for their level on professional materials. WSET provides logo files and usage guidelines after you pass the exam.
Section 3
Booking.
How do I book a course? +
All courses can be booked directly through our website. Find the course you'd like, choose an intake date, and complete checkout. You'll receive a confirmation email immediately, followed by course details and any pre-reading ahead of your course start date.
What's the cancellation policy? +
Cancellations made 72 hours before the course begins will incur a charge of 50% of the course cost per person. Cancellations within 72 hours of the course start are non-refundable. We understand circumstances change, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you can't attend.
Can I transfer my booking to another date? +
Our standard cancellation policy applies to date transfers, but get in touch as early as possible if you can't attend your booked intake. We'll always try to help where we can.
Can I transfer my booking to someone else? +
Yes. You can transfer your booking to another person. Please get in touch with their full name and contact details so we can update our records and the WSET registration (where applicable). For WSET courses, this transfer needs to happen before the course starts.
Do you offer payment plans? +
Yes. Afterpay is available at checkout for eligible purchases. For higher-cost courses like WSET Level 3, we also offer custom payment plans. Get in touch to discuss options.
What happens if a course is cancelled? +
In the rare event we need to cancel a course, you'll be offered a transfer to the next available intake or a full refund. We'll always give you as much notice as possible.
Section 4
Our venues.
Where is your Richmond location? +
Our Richmond location is at Inspire9, Level 1, 43 Stewart Street, Richmond 3121, Victoria. It's a short walk from Richmond station and easily reachable from the CBD.
Is parking available? +
Street parking is available around Stewart Street and Swan Street, though it can be busy on weekday evenings. We recommend public transport where possible, especially after tastings. See the Inspire9 parking guide for more options.
What about public transport? +
Richmond station is a short walk away. Trams along Swan Street (lines 70 and 75) drop you within walking distance. After tastings or courses, public transport is the recommended option given the wine consumed.
Where is Baix Brighton? +
Baix is at 81 Bay Street, Brighton 3186. We deliver selected WSET courses there in partnership with Baix, Ian Curley's contemporary Bayside restaurant. Brighton station and Middle Brighton station are both walkable, and street parking is available.
What's the difference between Richmond and Baix Brighton? +
Same school, same tutors, same qualifications. The difference is location and venue feel. Our Richmond location is our primary teaching space with our full course catalogue. Baix Brighton offers selected WSET intakes in a restaurant dining room setting, which many Bayside residents find more convenient and atmospheric.
Section 5
Online and Academy study.
How does WSET Online work? +
WSET Online combines MWS-delivered tuition with content from WSET's official online learning platform. You work through video lessons, reading materials, and quizzes, with tutor support available throughout. See our WSET Online page for course-specific details.
Can I sit my WSET exam online? +
For Levels 1 and 2, online exams are available via remote invigilation. Level 3 exams must be sat in person due to the blind tasting component. Online exam logistics are explained when you enrol.
What is the Online Academy? +
Our Online Academy offers self-paced courses outside the formal WSET framework. These are designed for wine enthusiasts who want to explore specific topics in depth without sitting an exam. Current offerings include Bordeaux Essentials, with more in development.
How long do I have access to online courses? +
Students have 12 months of access from the date of enrolment.
Section 6
Private and corporate events.
Can I book a private tasting? +
Yes. We host private tastings for birthdays, anniversaries, friend groups, and other private occasions. We can tailor the theme to your group's interests, whether that's a region (French wines, Italian wines), a style (sparkling, fortified), or a more freeform exploration. See our private tastings page for details.
Do you do corporate events and team training? +
Yes. We deliver corporate wine experiences, team-building tastings, client entertainment events, and WSET certification training for staff. We can host at our Richmond location, your office, or another venue. See our Corporate WSET page or contact us to discuss your needs.
What's the minimum group size for private events? +
Private events are best suited to groups of 8 or more. For smaller groups, joining one of our scheduled tastings or community nights is usually more cost-effective. Get in touch with your group size and we'll find the best option.
Can I book one-on-one coaching? +
Yes. Our one-on-one coaching is available for students preparing for higher-level WSET exams, professionals wanting bespoke training, or enthusiasts who want focused tuition on a specific area.
Section 7

What memberships do you offer? +
We have three tiers: MWS Membership ($55/quarter), Village ($195/quarter) and Premier ($295/quarter). All include cellar credits, member-only events, education materials and access to our WhatsApp community group. Village and Premier add quarterly wine allocations and savings on classes and events. Premier doubles the wine allocation to ten 100ml vials and increases savings to 10% on classes, events and Cellar wines, plus free community nights. Full breakdown on the memberships page.

How does the wine allocation work? +
