Join us on a guided vertical through the full range of Wendouree of the Clare Valley. Without a doubt one of the most uncompromising and hardest-to-access estates in Australia. Sold only by mailing list, and hardly ever at retail.

These are high-acid, savoury, tannin-driven wines from vineyards planted in the 1890s, dry-grown and built to age for decades. You will taste in drinking order, opening with the leanest and most structured wines and building to the mature finish.

We will show nine wines across the estate's full spread:

Wine 1 - Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Wine 2 - Malbec 2019
Wine 3 - Malbec 2018
Wine 4 - Malbec 2017
Wine 5 - Shiraz 2023
Wine 6 - Shiraz Mataro 2022
Wine 7 - Shiraz Malbec 2019
Wine 8 - Cabernet Malbec 2020
Wine 9 - Shiraz Malbec 2015

Numbers are strictly limited by the bottles in the room.

About Our Tasting Wendouree: A Vertical Through the Range

There are few names in Australian wine as quietly legendary as Wendouree. From A.P. Birks in the Clare Valley, the estate has no cellar door, no website and no retail presence. The wines are sold only to a mailing list that's among the hardest to join in the country, and they sell out within weeks of release. To gather nine of them in one room, across the full range and spanning the 2015 to 2023 vintages, is something you almost never get the chance to do.
The vines were planted from the 1890s. Dry-grown, hand-picked and fermented wild in a stone winery barely changed in a century, these are the opposite of the sweet, fruit-forward style most people associate with warm-climate Australia. They are high in acid, deeply savoury, built on fine tannin, and made to age for decades.
Across this tasting you'll move through Shiraz, Cabernet, Malbec and the estate's signature blends, in considered drinking order, with full guidance at every step. We finish on a mature wine that reveals exactly where the younger bottles are headed.
