Why four evenings

Burgundy,
one level at a time

Burgundy has 84 appellations, and it can feel like a lot to get your head around. The good news is that the system is simpler than it looks: the more specific the place on the label, the higher it's rated.

So that's how we're tasting it. We start with the lesser-known villages, move on to the big-name communes of the Côte d'Or, then Premier Cru, and finish on Grand Cru. By the end you'll know what you're paying for at each level, and why.

You can come to just one, but they're built to be done together.

The series
